In 2015 I had the opportunity to visit the factories in Suzhou as we were gearing up for release of the EV1 parts. After a day of assembly analysis with the DFM/X engineering team and visiting the plastics vendor we took some time to reflect on our accomplishments. We packed our internal and JDM team into a van and ventured off into the heart of Suzhou and found ourselves at a lovely restaurant amidst a historic district. Once inside the restaurant we were directed to a room with a large round table. Several courses of food were served, all of which were unique and flavors I hadn't tasted before.
The fried fish is a delicacy and, from my understanding, a very special meal in this part of China. It's really quite amazing; think of a "bloomin' onion" but made with fish. The fish is essentially filleted and sliced many times with skin deep cuts. During the frying process the body blooms into what are almost like French fries. The sweet and sour sauce poured over top was fantastic.
